Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup is a sports action video game released back in 2003 for the Game Boy Advance (GBA) handheld gaming console, as well as on other gaming platforms. The game features the fictional sport of Quidditch from Rowling’s Harry Potter franchise. The game features three stages: Hogwarts, Exhibition, and World Cup.

Quidditch, the broomstick and ball “sport” of the Harry Potter world comes to life in this simulation. For those unfamiliar with the game, two seven-player teams of flying wizards attempt to score goals with one ball while dodging more flying balls and each other.

For those of you looking to make a Quidditch costume, I have a tip for you: not every Harry Potter movie features Quidditch. Once I got over my shock at this fact, I tracked down which films could supply some reference.

Harry Potter & The Philosopher’s Stone

Harry Potter Quidditch World Cup

Year 1. The first encounter we have of Quidditch isn’t the game – it’s running across the Nimbus 2000 in Diagon Alley (21:30). Isn’t she a beaut? Then we see Oliver introducing Harry to Quidditch after his almost disastrous spotting by Professor McGonnogal (1:04:26). And, who can forget Harry’s first-ever Quidditch match (1:15:28)?

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

Year 2. The Chamber of Secrets has a few noteworthy Quidditch scenes: one where Draco shows off his sweet new ride, the Nimbus 2001 (38:02). Then comes that Slytherin/Gryffindor match with that dastardly rogue bludger (53:00). But of course, Harry still manages to win the match – and by a fluke, no less. Does anyone else smell Felix Felicis nearby?

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

Year 3. Gryffindor vs Hufflepuff – it’s a tough match alright, especially with Cedric Diggory on the team (54:12)! Harry + dementors = bad news. He’s taken to the hospital wing to recover (56:40). Anyone for some chocolate?

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Year 4. Harry doesn’t play Quidditch in this movie, but there’s still the world cup to look forward to (7:32) – Krum! Krum! And who can forget the Triwizard Tournament? Although not exactly Quidditch, there is a lot of flying going on (54:23).

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

Harry Potter Quidditch World Cup

Year 6. This is the last time we see Quidditch in the Harry Potter movies. You won’t want to miss Ginny telling everyone to “shut it” at tryouts (44:46), Hermione jinxing McLaggen so Ron gets his coveted Keeper spot, and Gryffindor playing Slytherin in the snow (1:01:51). This is the only movie that features 2 different sets of Quidditch robes – one for tryouts and one for games.
